Start Your Own Edible Garden

LEARNING STYLE - Online Instructor-led

Tuition: $149

Grow delicious, nutritious fruit and vegetables in your own backyard! In this course, you'll learn how to give your garden a healthy start and keep it growing strong all season.

You'll begin by figuring out which type of garden is right for you. You'll explore climate considerations, learn how to read a zone hardiness map, and find out how to spot a micro-climate in your yard. You'll discover how to properly prepare a garden bed so your crops have the best opportunity to thrive. You'll even learn to understand fertilizers and make compost! Whether you want to provide your family with nutritious food, save money, get some exercise, or just be more self-sufficient, this course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to be on your way to a successful harvest.

Meet the Instructor - Katie Powell-Lee

Katie Powell-Lee has worked as a landscape designer for a range of projects from community parks to wetland development. Her work has been featured in many publications including "Tactical Operations and the Informal Settlement" and has been exhibited at the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam. In addition, she volunteers as a garden educator teaching edible gardening to children at an urban learning farm. Powell-Lee received a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.

Organization 101: Get and Stay Organized for the Health of it!

Join Francesca Verri in this lively class as she teaches about the basic tenets of organization and how they are integral to living a healthy life. You will learn the 4 steps in the process to get organized, and the 3 imperatives to staying organized. You will also leave with a more complete understanding about why organization is the tie that binds together all wellness possibilities, and how to use it daily to find peace in your day-to-day. If you struggle with clutter, have tried unsuccessfully to organize various areas of your life and home, and are looking to create calm and efficiency in your life, this class is for you.

Home Maintenance Home Electrical Repair

Dates: 3 Mondays May 12th, 19th, 26th

Time: 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Location: GDRSD grounds (room TBD)

Tuition: $48

The instructor will provide demonstration and explanation of practical methods to repair small electrical problems and upgrades not requiring a permit. Topics discussed will include electrical code requirements; safety issues; equipment, tools, and materials; appliances and load types; fixtures, receptacles, and switches; communications and television.
